we love spring

We welcomed the start of a new season with a hike up Ensign Peak. Last Sunday temperatures reached 60+ degrees around here, and we just had to get out. As a bonus, we did two things we've never done in Utah. We're realizing how soon we could be moving away from here, and we want to take advantage of all we want to do here before we leave. Enter Ensign Peak, the place where Brigham Young and a couple other men climbed to a few days after arriving in the barren Salt Lake Valley. From here they started planning the city.

Don't think it was a walk in the park... we gained about 1000 feet in elevation, and did it quickly. It couldn't have been more than 15 to 20 minutes up the hill.
Emory loved every second of the hike.

Really, we need actual photo editing software to create a true panorama, but ignore the lines, distortions, and color changes, and you get the idea.

We ended the outing with a trip to temple square. It's so beautiful this time of year with the spring flowers, and in the next week or so, we'll have to go back for the blossoming trees. We toured Brigham Young's house, and learned more about his character and passions. He really, really valued education and the arts, and his home is designed to invite those disciplines into almost every room. The nice senior missionaries who guided us through the house captured our attention too well for us to take photos inside, but we made up for it with pictures-a-plenty around the grounds.

  2. Love all of your fun family outings! P.S. if you want, you can send your panorama pictures my way and I can stitch them together in Photoshop.

  3. You guys are such fun people. I accidentally hiked Ensign Peak one day, in January, in flats with no socks, alone. By the end my shoes and one pant leg up to my knee were covered in mud. I'm not mad about it though.
